That was probably the peek of our vegetable growing as a short time later we built a swimming pool that took up most of the sunny space in the back yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having said that, we always (and still do) grew quite a wide range of herbs and still grew the occasional vegetable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tuesday 5 January.<\/strong>  We had half price Red Rooster Chicken and Chips.  Around that time a quarter of a chicken and chips at Red Rooster, just a short walk away, was always half price on Tuesdays.  We pretty well always had it with fresh bread with either butter or mayonnaise, and lettuce.  Often with tomato or chilli sauce (or both).  It was yum!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wednesday 6 January.<\/strong>  Trenna remarks on the &#8220;smooth sauce&#8221;.  I ALWAYS remember the green pepper sauce as a green peppercorn sauce, with whole peppercorns &#8211; I&#8217;ve mentioned it in <a href=\"https:\/\/trennamahney.com\/the-menu-diaries-no-3\/#peppercorn\">a previous Menu Diary<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thursday 7 January. <\/strong> The Pizza Muffins just used English Muffins from the supermarket as the bases.  Eaten wrapped up in fresh iceberg lettuce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thursday 14 January.<\/strong>  As we often did, off to the restaurant after late night grocery shopping.  I tell <a href=\"https:\/\/trennamahney.com\/menu-diary-no-8\/#marg\">the story here<\/a> of bumping into Margaret Anderson after 20 years of not seeing her.  Well, she and Garry were there again on 14 January 1993!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Saturday 16 January<\/strong>.  Off to Trenna&#8217;s sister Barb&#8217;s place to celebrate the birthdays of her two youngest children (then aged 12 and 15).  The highlight was that her husband Alan, who originally came from Burma, cooked the curries &#8211; bonus!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sunday 17 January<\/strong>.  It was our turn to host the Sunday Session at our place.  A success, but I don&#8217;t remember any other details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thursday 21 January.<\/strong>  I spoke of this favourite comfort meal in the very <a href=\"https:\/\/trennamahney.com\/the-menu-diaries-no-1\/#franks\">first Menu Diary<\/a>.  We had leftovers in toasted sandwiches a few days later.  I doubt we had leftovers any other time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Friday 22 January.<\/strong>  Another Bachelor&#8217;s Dinner that Trenna and I attended.  This time at our mate Eggs&#8217; place.  (Eggs was in my Grade 1 class at school.)  The origin and purpose of the Bachelor Dinners is explained in <a href=\"https:\/\/trennamahney.com\/the-menu-diaries-no-4\/#bachelor\">The Menu Diaries <strong>N<\/strong>o. 4<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Friday 29 January.<\/strong> The start of the Australia Day Long weekend.  I worked for Curtin University of Technology then as the Academic Secretary.  A work colleague Jenny Walsh and her husband Jim invited us to dinner, along with her boss David Pugh and his wife Di.
